chase happiness

Santosh Kanekar

Do you seek happiness or fulfillment?⁣

“What’s the difference?” You may say⁣

Every step, every action we take ⁣
from the time we wake up ⁣
to the time we go to sleep ⁣
is a chase, ⁣
a chase for happiness or ⁣
to move away from pain⁣

We know it is momentary, ⁣
it is fleeting but ⁣
like tiny electric shocks ⁣
which we believe ⁣
don’t damage us,⁣
we chase the drug ⁣
called happiness⁣

When we get the object of our desire, ⁣
then we are satisfied momentarily ⁣
and then we start a new chase and
⁣every time the addiction increases ⁣
requiring larger doses of effort⁣,
larger doses of self-inflicted pain⁣
before the cycle renews again⁣

Fulfilment is the feeling you get ⁣
when you serve someone. ⁣

You don’t have to chase fulfilment⁣

You don’t have to buy anything ⁣
to get fulfilment⁣

Just be of service and ⁣
you will experience fulfilment⁣

As the week winds down ⁣
if there is any lingering feeling ⁣
of lack or absence or inadequacy ⁣

it is a sign that chase for happiness is on⁣

Stop it immediately!

it’s a race to a precipitous cliff⁣

release the effort,
Pause,⁣
look around, ⁣
life wants you ⁣

The purpose of life is to live ⁣
and to live it fully⁣

Take a deep breath and ⁣
feel life emerging inside you ⁣
and growing and ⁣
filling you up with contentment⁣

exhale slowly and ⁣
release the chase, ⁣
the wanting ⁣.

Today,⁣
Ask yourself⁣

Am I chasing happiness or seeking fulfilment?⁣

life worth living is when ⁣

the chase for happiness ends⁣
