I don’t have what I need to be successful.
If only I had money, right friends and contacts, right timing, right health, I could achieve anything. Sadly I don’t!
“To achieve greatness, start with what you have, use what you can and do what you can”
Arthur Ashe
Ashe was the first black player
selected to the United States Davis Cup team and
the only black man ever
to win the singles title at
Wimbledon,
the US Open, and
the Australian Open
Arthur Ashe started playing
when there were severe restrictions
on where and who you could play against
Once he had to give up title prize money
of US Open coz that was the rule
just to be part of
Davis Cup team
since he wanted to play
for the country
At every juncture,
people tried to stop him
deny him
resist him
He always maintained his cool
and focused on what he had
and practised
and practised
and some more
and kept winning
and went down in history
We often count what
we don’t have
and then lose our courage
Arthur Ashe is exhorting us
to count what we have
however little and small
and make them count
Ashe is exhorting us
to measure what we can do
and make our actions
become a storm
which no one can stop

Today,
Ask yourself
In what area of life
will you just start,
use what you have
and do what you can?
