This is the most serious career advice I have ever read
and it’s coming from a Cartoonist
“Focus hard on finding one thing
you can become really good at through practice
once you know it’s in your power to learn a skill and
become good at it,
you start to adopt the mindset of –
‘Oh, I can do this in other areas as well’ “
Scott Adams, the creator of Dilbert and
a very multi-faceted personality
I am a big fan of the philosophy of “One Thing”
there is a simplicity and laser-like focus of One Thing
When you become good, better and great at one thing
the world sits up and takes notice
You are valued for what you have
and the value you bring to others
With the internet and social media,
no longer are there any gate keepers
who can prevent you from sharing your skills
and demonstrating how your skill can add
value to others
What’s incredible about what Scott is saying
is that there is ripple effect of
learning and growing in your chosen area
into other aspects of life
Stop chasing the latest trend in education or jobs or
the highest paying job or project
Be You
No one can imitate in being You
