What success really means

value santosh kanekar

It’s natural to think about oneself
and for oneself.
With effort, we think about
our immediate family and maybe friends

However what makes this world go round
is the act of kindness and service
which everyone is doing for an unknown person

When you catch a train or
take a ride in uber,
we participate in the wheel of sharing.

The person doing the service to you
may be paid
but he is getting paid
probably at the end of month or day.
He is doing it in trust
that he will be paid for the service
more importantly, he is giving value upfront to you

We have a role in this world
to do our part, our duty,
to provide service and value to others

Even if you take a very transactional view
and say “I will provide service only if I am paid”
you are valuable only for the service
you provide and the kind of service you do

Success is actually a measure of
how much you can be
of service to others

Before asking what should I do or
how will I get paid
ask How can I serve others or
what can I do which would be helpful to others?

Then do it, take feedback on the service
Improve it next time, give more value
Take feedback and improve
and keep running this cycle
of service and excellence

When you focus on bringing excellence
in your work and not bother about the results,
you become so good that no one can ignore you
