Do you prefer to speak or listen?

“Sorry, what was the question?”

Given a chance,
we would rather start a monologue than..

“That’s not me, I prefer to listen
it’s just I know what you are going to say next
That I don’t listen but I do.
I was right, wasn’t I?”

You are right.
Instead of listening to others perspective,
we have already made up our mind
of what the other has to say and
then before the other can complete …

“Yeah, yeah, got that.
So I was right, wasn’t I?
And why do you take
so much time to get to the point.
I interrupt because I get it,
I know it,
tell me something new.
We should all speak clearly and
fast so we don’t waste anyone’s time
and then, we get to, uh
uh what was I going to say?
Wait, I just got a messenger notification…”

If we don’t wait for the other person,
we will never fully understand their perspective.
Worse with our confirmation bias,
we will only want to hear things
which confirm our opinion and never get to..

“No, No I got it,
perspective matters.
I am totally with you.
I don’t know why people don’t listen to others.
Like, I am totally tuned into you,
wait, just got another notification,
damn, these cat videos are so funny”

Yes, cat videos are funny and
the person in the front may be very interesting
if we hear them.

Because the most important benefit of Listening is that the other person FEELS that they are heard

“Yes, Yes I am a totally a feeling person.
I sense a person from a mile away,
like really, the other day,
I was walking down the corridor and
guess what happened?”

Tell me about it
